No One Said Anything About A Shark, Don’t Start Any Rumours !

Barracuda (The Lucifer Project) 1978  is a marketing film production of American General Pictures Corp. It’s been known as a Jaws cash in, but in reality it’s a straight forward horror hyped as Jaws like entertainment. I will admit as teens in the late seventies we were ready for anything that had teeth and created drama in the ocean. We essentially wanted more Jaws. It has fish attacks and there’s blood and body parts in the water but that’s the only connection. The trailer and movie posters sucked us in but the movie fell well short of our fired imaginations in both delivery and pace. It’s not Sharksploitation but it is a prime example of marketing feeding off Jaws mania.

Other Jaws mania period pieces with no sharks include, Bacalhau 1976, Orca 1977, Tentacles 1977, Piranha 1978, Up From The Depths 1979.
