Psycho Shark 2009 (also known as Jaws In Japan) is a Japanese slasher horror movie. The pace is slow, The interior shots are poorly lite and the frequent use of shoddy cam detracts. Having no prior knowledge of this movie I struggled with the plot. The direct homage scenes to Hitchcock’s Psycho 1960 however did help with plot intent. What didn’t help was the dialogue delivered in school girl shrill. Outside of Japan this cultural norm may not be so easily absorbed. In addition there is nothing to the shark attacks except blood in the water and a one use CGI fin. That is until the finale where the attack feels tacked on and has to be metaphorical otherwise in any other context it’s more than a little silly. Of note, It has the most overtly sexualised bikini count in sharksploitation so far. If this was going to be marketed as the Jaws In Japan it could have learnt a lot more from Jaws as the master class.
