Get Your Fish By Hook or By Crook.
White Death 1936 is a British Empire Film release. Set in Australia and made to capitalise on Zane Greys (popular American author of the time) fishing trip. It is clear that the plot is an add on to Mr Greys trip and tries out some comedy and romance as filler. It is at best a timepiece of the way we were. It is at its worst dated and of limited historical interest only. There is near nothing for the sharksploitation fan as even the bikini’s advent was still a decade away. Some of the over acting is refreshingly funny because these are theatrically trained actors. The exception is the leading lady who had no previous experience but manages to fit in ok. The attitudes and actions of the time are a bit hard to process from the modern viewpoint and you will need to push any prejudices aside and accept it for what it was, an attempt to cash in on a celebrities visit. Interesting that they thought that the great white was rare and only refer to sharks as white or grey. The real shark scenes are murky and quite dull. For the Australian cinema buff only.
