Ay Caramba, That’s A Big Mother!

 The Shark  Hunter II Cacciatore Di Squali 1979 is a  macho Italian fantasy set around Cozumel in the Gulf of Mexico. It is not really sharksploitation as we know it despite what the movie poster teased. In fact it can be categorised as a treasure hunt drama. There are tame sharks being killed and maimed and even wrestled. However It would have been much more interesting to see the protagonist wrestling a Great White, now that would have been real macho. Testosterone levels were much higher in 1970’s if this movie is anything to go by. We are treated to gratuitous shark killing, knife fights and misogynistic behaviour In addition the protagonist even smokes Marlboro cigarettes. Everyone of a certain  age in the 70’s knew that Marlboro cigarettes proved you were a real man.The modern male however will find many cringe worthy moments. The interior and some of the deeper dive scenes are so badly lit that they’re nearly unwatchable in it’s unrestored state. It will be of Interest to those that want to explore Italian cash in movies post Jaws.
