There Are No Monsters.⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bull 2023 is a movie by David Kotkin and Glenn Cutler who remarkably do all the directing and production, from what I can gather. Its theme is centred around the protagonists pursuit of redemption amidst all consuming bouts of grief and addiction. This is a dark midnight of the soul story which suits its chosen black and white shot format. I found this difficult to watch as from Act 1 the primary subject is of child endangerment. It’s a look into the darker side of the human condition and here it delivers. The Shark scenes are brief and realistic, quite a feat for this very low budget movie. The use of sharp natural sound rather than soundtrack makes the shark feel so present and draws you into the all pervasive dread. So too the use of clipped concise dialogue that works in adding to the expression of the burden the protagonist carries. The sharksploitation is overtly metaphoric here. So perhaps a warning as this not for someone looking for an action movie with a heroes journey arc, at the same time it’s not in the vein of the recent slue of no budget existential shark movies. What you do get is a deep dive into a lingering dread exacerbated by a tragic loss. Currently only found on Tubi.
