Jumping The Shark In Its True Sense.
Sharksploitation has never had better publicity than it is enjoying right now. The Jaws Anniversary has finally and somewhat belatedly seen some worthy events and shows added. I guess the finance conscious Hollywood industries gears grind slow but gets there when accounting returns can be seen. I refer here to the academies Jaws exhibit which like the movie seems set to become a blockbuster in and of itself. Could this be the dawn of the museum autumn blockbuster. Unlikely, but it has helped to reaffirm the place the movie has in the public consciousness. The movie it seems is a significant cultural artefact for western culture at the very least. When the online art gestalt applies itself in reflection of this we get some interesting views of what the cultural artefact is looking like currently. Pushing Damien Hurst aside this generation of artists seem to have been swimming in the wake of sharksploitation from the first decade of 21st century. Not sure the touted support for Shark Conservation was a good fit for the online exhibit but if they are giving some sort of support to the cause then I try to view it as positive. The shark has definitely been jumped now in all sense of the definition.
Both the academies exhibit and Sideshows Jumping The Shark art exhibition can be viewed on U tube currently.
