They Are Predators But So Are We. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mako: The Jaws Of Death 1976 Ushered in the birth of true B movie Sharksploitation. I say this without too much fear of contradiction as I go on to list its virtues. Rare live shark interaction for its time, early movie treatment of shark conservation ideas, Shark cult and Shark obsession, commercial greed and general wrongdoings. It all goes to make this the progenitor shark b movie plot and the waters are well chummed for it. So why did it take me so long to post about this sharksploitation gem. It’s been hard to find a clear copy of this movie. It has a lot of murky night shots that without digital restoration it has not stood up well to time. Utube has the best unrestored watchable version currently. So this has been a major detraction for me upon repeat watching, no digital restoration. It’s now nearly fifty years since this movie was released and it still has more to offer Sharksploitation fans than most current offerings. Maybe it’s ripe for a remake. If I was in charge of remakes in the sharksploitation genre this is the one, using the script virtually untweaked. This time round though I would have super sized CGI Mako’s instead of reef sharks but that’s about all as this is pure sharksploitation gold. Failing that, we need it restored at the very least.

If you want to dive into the Shark obsession trope try, Shark Night 2011, Stalker’s Prey trilogy 2017 to 2021.

If you want more Shark cult try, Shark Exorcist 2014, Ghost Shark 2013, Noah’s Shark 2021, Ouija Shark 2020 of this bunch Ghost Shark is my pick.
