Jaws Is 50

I still feel comfortable in stating this movie is the best horror ever made, The flood of shark movies made in its wake started a whole sub-genre that has tried to capture in some way its fine attributes, but by and large they have fallen well short. Most are entertaining in their own way. That is of course if you are the sort of movie fan that can appreciate the work that goes into even the most schlocky of those efforts. I mean that’s why this blog exists. So, with Jaws now celebrating its 50th anniversary it’s time to also celebrate all those other sharksploitation movies post Jaws that for me starts with 1981’s, The Last Shark and continues right up to 2024’s Into The Deep. I lost count years ago of how many sharksploitation movies are out there and I know of at least five I have not seen from the past two decades. Add to that at least three major releases for this year still coming, you can fairly well state that sharksploitation is here to stay. All the significant movies are mentioned in this blog with its emphasis on how they stack up against the five major categories that makes Jaws stand dorsal and caudal fin above most of them.

Is this the best we can do this anniversary year, hate the game, love the movie.
