Shark Warning 2024 is an Asylum movie. Asylum has gotten better and better in the last ten years, they’ve really got their sharksploitation entries well honed. The screenplay has managed to work in all the tropes we’ve come to expect such as bikini count, dodgy local politics, liberal use of shark fin, to name a few. It also revives some tropes that have been missing of late, such as the tried and true bucket of chum, This movie chums by the gallon load. The screenplay also has as its core theme, decades old post traumatic stress which when it comes to sharks is an excellent motivator for revenge and final closure. All this helps build good relatable characters. The CGI shark looks good and its attacks though infrequent, are still exciting. It does however look like an extra from pirates of the Caribbean with its distinctive scar. One thing of note is the fact that nearly 20% of the attacked characters die indirectly in the encounters by their own volition. That’s new.
