Sharktopus (China) 2023. Is a Chinese movie currently labelled as a remake of 2010's Sharktopus. I won't compare this to the Rodger Corman produced Sharktopus because despite the name this movie is a very different animal. The only similarity to the original is the antagonist itself. I am so glad a Chinese production company had a go at this iconic sharksploitation monster. The movie is colour saturated and full of some great stylized action and drama throughout. A nicely paced story does support an outlandish plot here. The Chinese take their creature features seriously and, in this instance, they appear to have been given a sizable budget. The visual effects are mated well with the hyper live action. It is quite possible that the future of Sharksploitation belongs to Chinese movie production companies. So, brush up on your Mandarin or be prepared to read a lot of subtitles. Zero bikini count though.
