 In Meg 2 The Trench 2023 one Meg should have been enough but if you can't super-size a shark any bigger then add some Jurassic Park creatures. Seems like overkill but I haven't read the book so don't know if it was a faithful adaption, marketing seems to use the words 'based on' so literally these days. I blame Megalodon Rising 2021, For introducing the 3 Megalodon Idea, which is carried  to the extreme here. Also a brief rehash of Mega Shark versus Giant Octopus 2009 to a lesser extent. Nothing new really just Bigger brighter and well rendered as only a big budget can offer. I loved the second half from when we are shown Fun Island, that's a keeper for monster and sharksploitation fans but tolerated the first half. The story in the first half just chugs along ( it’s really hard to demarcate acts only halves)with very flat performances. I also felt that the story was deliberately kept time pressured by well positioned use of the Meg(s) running interference and not central to the story. All said and done it's still a spectacle, but it just kicks off as one in the second half. The influence that Chinese made for TV monster movies has had on this movie is welcome. If the Meg 2 had the pace of Blood Bite 2020 for instance all could have been right in the world of sharksploitation.
