Shark Attack (1999) is the opener for a trilogy of shark films from the writers Scott Devine and William Hooke. As a made for TV movie it seems heavy on prolonged visualisation of gore in act 1. This is only from the use of overlong shark vivisection footage. It didn't add anything to the build of the story and just seemed gratuitous. That aside this is a well-paced and plotted action mystery movie that doesn't drag for a moment. I was engaged and found myself trying to pre-solve the mystery. With action/mystery movies you would tend to think that the sharks were just there to provide a bit of tension. Not so, The plot has a premise that puts the shark in the fore front. As for the shark content I think there was some rubber shark models used in scenes but most of it was real shark footage. The team have managed to mate the footage with the actor performances well. To the point where you can suspend disbelief easily. Well worth a watch and a good start from this writing team
